‘Prost’ to Munich Fact-Finding Experience

One of Europe’s most iconic tourism events has become the latest fact-finding experience for a group of UK travel trade professionals – with plenty of ‘Prost!’ along the way.
Oktoberfest
in Munich has long attracted British visitors keen to experience its unique
combination of Bavarian hospitality, entertainment, food, music and, of course,
beer.
Now Steve
Reed Tourism, from Hampshire, and Coach Buddy, based in Peterborough, have
joined forces to experience the Oktoberfest phenomenon for themselves – helped
by a rather significant birthday for one of the ‘delegates’.
Arranged
in conjunction with tour operator Go Cruise & Travel, three days away from
the normally hectic group travel schedule provided an illuminating insight into
Munich and the Oktoberfest experience.
The visit
was undertaken to assess the potential for UK coach operators, group organisers
and tour planners. On the evidence of the trip, Oktoberfest offers a
potentially significant opportunity for group travel businesses looking to
develop Munich and Bavaria as a destination.
And it
certainly didn’t disappoint.
The
fact-finding party included Steve Reed, Tony, Russell and Chris, with the team
also benefiting from the expertise of Sophie, an English-speaking guide from
Bavarian Day Tours.
The
fashionable lederhosen may have helped the party blend into the Bavarian
surroundings, while the oft-repeated cry of ‘Prost!’ certainly added to the
atmosphere.
Steve
Reed explains:
“As it’s
now my 70th year during 2026, I decided to round up one or two trusted experts
– Tony, Russell and Chris – to assist me with my in-depth exploration.
“You
could say it was ‘assisted travel’ in certain respects. Although, to be quite
honest, there probably weren’t too many actual facts found along the way!
“But, on
reflection after a hugely memorable two or three days of Munich sightseeing, we
could appreciate that Oktoberfest has quite wide appeal.
“It is
located at the incredible Theresienwiese showground, right in the heart of the
beautiful Bavarian capital. There is something here for groups, coach parties
and visitors of all ages – even if the beer tents are perhaps the main
attraction for some!”
For UK
group travel organisers and coach operators, Munich also offers the opportunity
to combine Oktoberfest with sightseeing, Bavarian culture, attractions, food
and drink, and the wider tourism offer of the region.
Steve
adds:
“It’s a
must-see. And if you are involved in group travel, I think it is well worth
putting Munich and Oktoberfest on the fact-finding list.”
