Attraction Launch: Elizabeth Gaskell’s House in Manchester.

11/22/2017

New Plot for Groups. Pankhurst Centre and Tatton Park Involved.

Monday 26th February is to be a special date for the UK travel trade as women and their role in shaping our society sheds light on two closely linked visitor attractions.

Writer Elizabeth Gaskell’s House and the nearby Pankhurst Centre, birthplace of the Suffragette movement, will be under the magnifying glass of coach and tour operators and group travel organisers from all over Great Britain.

Organised by Hampshire based group travel specialists Steve Reed Tourism Ltd in conjunction with the Bury Village Hotel, Tatton Park and Mayne Coaches Limited of Manchester the event will see Elizabeth Gaskell’s House unveiled to tour planners, alongside its neighbour The Pankhurst Centre.

Sally Jastrzebski-Lloyd is the House Manager for Elizabeth Gaskell’s House:

‘In this part of Manchester we have an undiscovered grouping of surprising attractions – each of which can offer something unique for groups. The launch at Elizabeth Gaskell’s House will reveal the many aspects of the attraction to the travel trade as well the linkages with nearby attractions such as the Pankhurst Centre, who in 2018 will be celebrating 100 years of the first women’s right to vote in the UK.’ explains Sally.

Elizabeth Gaskell’s House in Manchester was the home of the famous author and her family. Her novels include Mary Barton, Cranford, North and South, Ruth and Wives and Daughters and are enjoyed on television, stage and radio. This beautifully restored home is now open to the public. It has spectacular period rooms and garden and a tea room for visitors to enjoy.

The attraction at 84 Plymouth Grove in Manchester offers private and bespoke group tours on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays – this must be booked in advance. Prices start from £10 which includes a guided tour, a drink and slice of cake in the tearoom. Group tours and visits last between 1-2 hours. Groups of between 10 and 60 people can be accommodated in the house and garden at once. Bespoke tours include the Gaskell’s home life, Victorian Manchester and Elizabeth Gaskell’s literary career. Coaches can drop off directly outside the house.

Tour planners are invited to reserve their places at the launch event on Monday 26th February. Places are limited and subject to eligibility.

The Village Hotel Bury will be hosting some of the delegates from further afield the night before on Sunday 25th February with dinner and accommodation. They’ll also have the chance to see some of Manchester’s other group attractions during their fact-finding visit including Tatton Park in Cheshire.
